In Utica, coffee shops cluster around downtown offices, college campuses and the main commercial streets of residential neighborhoods, and the independents usually close by mid-afternoon while chains stay open into the evening. Across New York, drive-thru coffee stands and kiosks fill the gap in suburbs and along highways, and roasters often sell bags and brewing gear at the counter. Check the listing for hours, whether the cafe takes mobile orders, and its Google rating and recent reviews; parking is easiest at suburban locations, while downtown shops rely on street meters or nearby garages. Loyalty programs are common and worth joining if you are a regular.

Utica is in New York, in the Northeast, where four distinct seasons shape local life: hot humid summers, snowy winters that can close businesses for a day, and a dense pattern of towns where walking, transit and street parking all matter. US addresses list the street number and name, then the city, state abbreviation and ZIP code, and Utica follows the same pattern; a suite or apartment number such as Ste 200 refers to a unit inside the building. The map link on this page shows the exact spot.

Disappointing food from a non-community minded cook. The cornbread bubble waffle tasted like watered down creamed corn. His β€œhomemade” sausage is from Aldi plus a few extra spices he adds. Bad coffee. Something in my breakfast was overly seasoned with rosemary. The spinach cheese omelette my partner got was decent enough but needed hot sauce. The bread was the tastiest part of his meal. The chef was extremely boastful about his past. He told quips about how he can’t get anyone to work there with him, which is very telling, and inappropriate diner conversation. When we asked him where else we should go eat in Utica, he said nowhere!! He said that all of the other restaurants there sucked and nobody did farm to table. There is literally a delicious farm to table spot 4 store fronts away and the sandwich shop 3 blocks away did not disappoint. There is no restroom available. The restaurant itself is a bit messy, no personality. If you like subpar food from a crotchety, jaded person, by all means, eat at Goldens.

This is such a cute little diner with delicious homemade food! I got the bacon, egg, cheese breakfast sandwich and it was amazing! I think the English muffins were homemade too! The homefries were so good as well! Coffee was great! We will definitely be back next time we're in the area.

Scratch made food. One person place. Food is soooo good. We like to sample a variety of local places but we are coming back here for a second stop while we are here because it is so good and so many things we want to try. Bubble Waffle, scratch made yoghurt bowl, and two different crepe dishes, all outstanding. Loved the little joint vibe and cool jazz to ease into the day over coffee.

An authentic diner experience, unique because of Chef Goldens’s character, but also familiar and comfortable. I sat at the counter and had a delicious bacon and caramelized onion omelette, and got to watch a talented guy run the show in his little diner dojo.

A fantastic no-frills little breakfast/ lunch diner in downtown Utica. Delicious food at reasonable prices and friendly service. Its a one man operation as the owner is the chef and waiter so if it fills up, you may have to wait a bit but its worth it. We were fortunate to have the place to ourselves at the time we went and the owner/chef, Jeff, was a great host with many personal stories about the history of Utica and his personal colorful past. We had his stuffed French toast which was awesome and some eggs. The coffee and tea are self serve and there are seats at the counter and a couple tables. The place only seats around 16 people but he assured us that he occasionally gets many more in there at a time. If you're looking for a great breakfast or lunch during the week (its closed on weekends) and don't need any frills, this is the place to go. We'll definitely be back!
